Well I thought that I'd be part of this forum since I'm starting to cash in quite a bit of money to Billy whom will soon be rich from us first gens smile.gif. The Re-Speed Items that I have in are:

Rack & Pinion kit with quick ratio steering
Front Tubular sway bar
and just added to the list the Heatshield

Later to be ordered are the Moser axles, big brake kit, camber plates, and maybe coil-overs. I'll be posting up some pictures later on.

Welcome aboard man! smile.gif

have you noticed much of a difference with the rear sway bar as most of the rx7 circuit racers i know have removed them

We do the same here for road race. Looks like the autocross guys use the rear bar to get the car to pitch better. Our autox courses are tight over here. I have never run a road race car with a rear bar.

I started out autocrossing with the stock bars front and rear. Then I tried it without the rear bar, and couldn't really tell much difference other than reduced inside wheel spin when accelerating hard out of a corner (no lsd back then). Later, I upgraded to a Racing Beat front bar, and put the rear back on. Not bad. Ran like that for about a year.

Last spring I finally upgraded to the Respeed hollow front bar, and an adjustable rear bar set on the stiffest setting. Perfect!

My only regret is that I started out this build before Billy really got rolling on his suspension parts. So I ended up spending a lot of money on stuff that didn't really work right (Racing Beat springs, sway bars), only to take it all off and put the Respeed parts on about a year later. But its all good now, and the car is performing better than ever. I eat Porsches for breakfast in autocross now (no kidding). smile.gif

Sorry for the late updates but here's some engine bay shots as of yesterday.

The big brake stuff is really soon to be on order, probably as soon as I get tax return money as.

Also Billy question for you, is it possible to have you press in some new bearings when i do my order? Would make things a little easier. Also the retaining plates that you sell, not sure what exactly those replace. Any pictures?

Lastly here's some videos of it at the track:

These 2 were before i had the RE-Speed sway bar and back bar on. Also if you can hear it from the engine wasn't sounding healthy thanks to not maching injectors from venom which later on resulted in a blown engine.

Well finally some more goodies to start the year:

T2 brakes all around on my FB
Moser axles in the back
Camber plate
Heavy Duty Retainer Plate
Full brake line kit for the calipers
Triangulated strut bar
some bigger rear end gearing probably 4.3 or something like that.
Custom rims
And some toyo proxies r888

Everything except for the last 3 things on that list have been ordered, should be getting some better times with the wider rims and stickier tires now biggrin.gif
Kentetsu
Makes me kinda glad you're not racing in my region... smile.gif

Sounds like you're going to have a great setup once you get that stuff installed and broken in. Have fun!
dj55b
lol ... maybe i'll just have to make a trip down there to have some fun with you biggrin.gif I can't wait to see how the car feels like with more grip. I'm still trying to figure how to measure my rims properly. These are the sheets that I have to do:

http://www.kodiakracingwheels.com/wheel_shell_spec_sheet.pdf

If Billy might help out a bit for a 7" or preferrably an 8" wheel.

Wow, looks like you'd need a degree in something to figure that stuff out. lol.

I'd say go at least 8" wide. A lot of guys running 13" are looking for 9" wide wheels now due to a new tire size coming out (I think it was Hoosier). Mine are 8" with 4" backspacing and are from Diamond Racing. Perfect fit on my car, but I've got stock brakes.

15's?

Just throwing this out there for people, looks like for the front you'll need about 4.4" back space or -3mm offset to fit 8's in the front, the rears would be 4.9"backspace and 10mm offset. This is for 15" rims

also have one more picture for you guys with the sturt tower bar installed:

My new wheels. 13x8 Revolutions w/4" backspace. Tires are 214/50/13.

Those are the ones from trochoid right? I'd like to go in a little more than that ... I know the front I can go in atleast another 1/2" the rear i actually might be going ot 5.8" or so ..

Having trouble finding a second set of rims to fit though without much trouble
Kentetsu
Yes, I purchased them from T. I love the fit, and when I'm driving there isn't a single person that has testicles that doesn't stop and stare.

On the way out of work today(I have to check out with security, and after 18 years they know me well) they told me that there have been so many people walking over to my car and looking it over that they've actually dedicated a security camera to it. smile.gif
dj55b
Well finally found a second set of rims to play around with right now. 15x7, 4.5" Backspacing ... perfect for our cars. Rims are off 93-95 Explorer. I got the rims and painted them ... here's some pictures of them. I think I did a pretty good job for first time doing rims, and in a quick time too. could of sanded off everything smoothly but opted to just use a coarse wool and rub everything with that and then just spray it with brake cleaner. Its still missing the clear coat. I'll do that along with the other 2 rims tomorrow
Kentetsu
How are you going to make that bolt pattern work??? I assume you've got it all figured out, I'm just curious.... smile.gif

Here's a shot of them besides the car :
dj55b
well finally got the tires out for a weight comparison. My 14x6 ASA rims with 185/60 R14 goodyear nordics wieght in at 33Lb each. The 15x7 Explorer rims with 195/50 R15 Toyo FZ4 weight in at 35lb. Like I said didn't expect much difference.

Just looked up some rubber weight, 185/60/14 rubber is about 17.4lb, 195/50/15 rubber is about 19.2lb

So really the ASA wheels weight in at about 15.6 lb, and the explorer 15.8lb. For an added 1" width to the rim I think thats pretty good.
dj55b
Well finally got the rear brakes installed!!! Only took 3 days lol. At first I had to wait for a new oil seal to come in for the rear end because they sent in the wrong one. Secondly the nut off the calipers ebrake mechanis wasn't fun to deal with, I had to take it back to the place that I had them rebuilt to get it off. A bit of heat and a good impact wrench got it off though, then lastly today I was hoping to just go outside bleed the brakes, and fill out the diff again with new oil, but turns out that the one fitting was stripped, so I had fun taking it out and putting a new one in.

I'll get some pictures as soon as it stops raining but look good overall. The car doesn't dive as much with the bigger rear brake and stock front biggrin.gif I just hope that these wheels fit in the front because i don't think I have that much more room. Maybe 1/2"...
dj55b
well finally got the fronts mounted ... alot easier than i expected. And that whole tossing the piece in the oven worked perfectly. We left it in for about an hour because we forgot about it but it went on sooo easily and its nice and firm in there. Also those explorer/ranger wheels fitted in perfectly ... nice and flush with the fender line and everything. You can actually get some centerline rims that weigh about 13.5lb a piece for like 800$ for all 4 and they have the right backspacing of 4.5".
dj55b
Well some more updates now that we're back in the race season. I'm still running all season tires (sumo akinas) really the cheapest things that I could find till I get my rims from kodiak which should be in hopefully next week sometime, then i'll be running the toyo R888.

But first race of the year, I was a second quicker this time around then last year at Cayuga. Also I'm not sure if its the front sturt tower bar or what, but the car doesn't understeer at all now even in the rain, and oversteer is really easy to control by light inputs of the throttle as oppose to wanting to snapping out of line easily.

Second race of the year was at Dunnville, first time at that track and was wet (dried up a bit in the afternoon for time attack which was good). Having just read that speed secrets book and instead of doing 2 groups (novice and pro) they ran everybody in one group really made me push myself. I cooked my brakes pretty good (brake fluid getting pretty dark, and also the one time after doing about 15 laps back to back pushing extremely hard, I came out of the track and all my rotors were colored blue, along with a bit of smoke coming out of them. But after all that hard work, using the times of a 3rd gen guy that I know is always consistent, my time difference went down about 2%. I normally run about 17% difference in time between me and him, but dropping it 2% is pretty impressive I think.

When you have 2 third gens, 2 subaru's sti fully track prepped, and 2 mazdaspeed 3 that are modded and chipped, it really pushes your bounderies. The subaru's and thrids gens always break event track records too just to give you an idea of how quick they are. But ya having them in the rear view mirror makes you not want to be in their way at all and pushes you to drive faster and brake later. When I stater out the day I was doing about 125kph through the highspeed chicane, by the end of the day I was reaching about 150kph. Also through the long sweeping corner, I was doing about 80 all the way through out, at the end I was doing about 92, and exiting at 110 as oppose to exiting at about 100. Lots and lots of fun, but once I get the good rubber, I'll be going down quite a few seconds. I can keep up with alot of cars on the straights, but its the turns that kill me. I'm gessing with getting the good race compound I'll drop a good 6 seconds or so at cayuga.

Lastly I might have to run a catch can now. Jim and Marco the owners of the 3rd gens were talking about oil and I mentioned that I wasn't running a catch can like they were, and they made fun of me because I wasn't getting as much G-forces to force it out. That was earlier on in the day, about an hour later, I popped the hood and called both of them over and with an over joyous tone, and showed them that I had dribbled a bit of out on the sprak plug wires smile.gif ... still making fun of me they said "oh you're not having a coffee and eating on the track now, you're just having a coffee" ... lol third gens ... just can't please them.
Kentetsu
Wow man, if you're already keeping up with those guys in the straights, then the hard part is over. Get some decent rubber on there and I think you'll be surprised at how much of a difference it will make. smile.gif

Oh I already know on all the fun that I'm missing out on with running just all season compound. I can't wait to see your car at zoom fest neither! It would be the first time that I'm not the only first gen at the track! Also after some hard thinking, I don't think that I'll be riding on my new rims and rubber all the way down there. Too much waste on the tires. I thought about putting them in the back of the car also, but I most definatly would not want to drive around with 4 tires in the back all the time.
dj55b
Well here's some updated pictures with the new rims and race rubber.

15x8 Kodiak Rims
225/45 Toyo R888 rubber
