Perfect Circle was kind enough to offer me a seat in his car for the race, and I am very thankful to him for giving me that opportunity. I didn't think the learning curve would be too great because it is still, after all, an RX7. How different could it be, right? lmao.
As it turns out, he hasn't had the time to perform any suspension upgrades, so everything is stock and original. The only mod on the car was a mindtrain exhaust (which sounded great by the way). As a result, the difference between our cars was extreme. 25 year old bushings, springs, and shocks can really be felt when pushing the car to the limit. If I remember correctly, his car has about 186,000 miles on it. But still, it ran great and I'm certainly not going to complain about the performance of that suspension!
The winner of our group was my arch nemesis (great guy, but I love to try to beat him), who drives a fully prepped SE on race tires. I believe his winning time was 67.4 seconds. My best time was 69.8, but unfortunately I snagged the last cone on the course, which gave me a fast time of 71.8. I didn't beat him, but I think I came close enough to make him a little nervous.
They set up a very challenging course for us, which included some extremely exagerated slaloms and other tricky stuff. I'll put together a video of our day as soon as I have the time, but for now I've got a few pictures. One of the pictures is of the "front row seats" that were on Cody's car during the race. We left it there for the possibility of any aerodynamic improvements that it may have provided us, and honestly I think it might be responsible for our great finishes. I certainly didn't see anybody else running this type of mod!
And now, on to the pictures. And thanks again Cody for the opportunity to drive your 7. I can't wait until you get the new suspension installed, you're really going to be amazed at the difference...
