When I stumbled up on the Respeed website it renewed my interest in my car. It is an SA that I rebuilt about 12 years ago. It is a '79 that I bought new in '78. When I rebuilt it I put in a street ported 13-b along with other upgrades. What it does not have is a decent suspension or steering as non of these upgrades were available when I put the car together, sooo I have ordered crossmember/r/p setup along with the coilovers, rear "coilovers" and camber plates.
The car has been in storage for several years so today I drained all the old gas, pulled the plugs and sprayed in a mix of marvel mystery oil and seafoam, changed the oil and filter, put in a fresh battery aired up the tiresand fired her up and drove her home. The tires were so flat spotted that it drove like it had square tires!
Any way, if there is any interest I will get the camara out and document the installation of the upgrades.
I am very pleased that I found ReSpeed as they seem to offer several upgrades that I really needed years ago when I first built my car but could not find (or did not know about).
The parts are on the way, as soon as I have them in my dirty little hands I will get started.

Sounds like a killer project. We would all like to see pics of the car.

Gorgeous car. You can't go wrong with the RE-Speed bits and it will make you want to drive her every single day. Keep us updated.

That is freaking beautiful man!!! With the new suspension on, it will also handle as well as it looks.
If you have time, check out some of my videos (link in my signature line). The latest ones have the full Respeed suspension, and will give you an idea of what can be done with it.
A couple of questions:
Where did you hear about Respeed?
Where are you located?
What are your plans for the car (gonna race her?)?
Best of luck with your project

I just happaned up on the ReSpeed website and really liked the coilovers and the rack setup, my car had been in storage for a long time and the website got my stoked because I had always wanted to upgrade the steering and suspension so I got my car out of mothballs and placed an order.
I live in central Alabama not far from Birmingham.
I probably won't race it, I used to autocross alot, been there and done that, just looking to make it ride and handle the way I always wanted it to!
I will check out your vids.
ps.Does sterling still do the carbs? Are you happy with yours? How would compare with a mikuni 44pph sidedraft?

Yes, Sterling still does carbs. His website is www.sterlingmetalworks.com
The only carb that I can offer for comparison is a stock (but stripped and rebuilt) Nikki that I had on before the Sterling. Going from that to the Sterling was a huge improvement. The carb has served my needs well enough that I have never considered replacing it with anything else, and the driveability is great. I highly recommend his carbs for anybody who likes power. :)
I've always said that I've never lost a race due to a lack of horsepower. lol. And that's really something when you're using a stock port 1100 cc motor....

Thanks,
I watched your auto x vids and was very impressed. From the in car shots it is obvious that there is very little body roll, impressive considering your preference for soft springs.
I am glad to see this as I was fed up with stiff, rough riding springs.
I have some very soft springs on the way with my coil overs and intend to control the roll with sway bars.
Do you run a rear bar? If so which one.

I bought my rear bar used, but I believe it came from ISC Racing (which no longer makes parts for our cars). If you ask Billy, I'm sure he can advise you on a proper replacement source. I run it on the stiffest of the three settings. If you don't plan to race, then you might get by with the stock rear bar along with the Respeed front bar.
The soft springs/heavy swaybars is a great way to go. Most of my competitors run heavy springs, and they don't do as well as me even though their cars show up on trailers (because they are too stiff for road use). I love passing these guys on the highway after beating them at the races, blowing by them in my 7 that has 220,000 miles on it.

I even took the wife with me down to North Carolina (from Michigan). The car rode very nice; firm enough to be precise on the freeway, but soft enough that she didn't complain much. And I drive it to work most days when there isn't snow on the ground. I like my car way too much to turn it into something that I could only drive on the race track.
What spring rates did you go with? And did you get the adjustable rear perches too?
rwatson5651@gmail.com

the springs I have on the way is 200 front and 125 rear, which is the softest Billy offers.
I have several stock rear bars, from several different year 1st gens (it is a little known fact that not all year models were the same stiffness)
I also have several aftermarket rear bars, most would be too stiff (taill happy) for street use.
I will wait until I get my suspension set up and do some trial and error to figure out which I will use, probably one of the stock bars, or no rear bar at all, I will wait and see.
What front bar are you running and is it the heaviest front bar you have tried?
And yes I did order the rear spring perches so as to be able to accurately set my corner weights and set my ride height where I want.
btw i have joined sterling's forum under the name Rx-7 Nut, I may change my carb to one of his if I cannot make myself happy with my current one, thanks for the info!

Those spring rates should give you a nice ride. What shocks are you using? The Illuminas would give you the ability to soften things up for a long drive, or firm them up for weekend fun. Very nice shocks for the money, and the adjustability is great for fine tuning your ride. The adjustments actually make a very big difference in the ride of the car.
The front bar I use is the Respeed hollow bar. Seems to be substantially stiffer than the Racing Beat bar it replaced, and weighs a ton less. This is by far the strongest bar I've tried up front, and absolutely love it. If you use a strong bar on the front of the car, then you can use pretty much any bar on the rear without any "snap oversteer" issues. This just helps to keep the entire car "flat" in the corners.
I saw your post over at Sterling's, and figured it was you. Good luck, and let me know if you have any more questions.
