I'm new here so I thought I would finally say hi and run thru what I drive.
Here it goes my name is Marc , I'm married and I live the Akron/ Cleveland Ohio area and do building maintainace for a living. I've been in to rx-7's since 1991. I've had 5 rx-7 over the years most of them have been 1st gen. 2 (1 FPrep. solo trackdaycar)-SA's , 1-83 gs, 1-85 gsl-se , 1- 85 gs(E Prod Road Race Car), and 1-88 gtu. I currently only own the Eprod car(under construction) and the 79 FP solocar(money pit).
I originally started with a $500 parts car that turned out to be nicer then the nonparts car. So I had completely gutted the car and painted the interior. Replaced the motor and swaped out the rad for an MSMS aluminum rad. replace the oil coller w/ a fc oil cooler swaped out the carb w/ a Weber DCOE and a Racing Beat header as well as an MSD AL6 for the leading plugs. I then drop the car with Ground Control coilvers w/ 450lb springs and camber plates and Gforce Engineering turnin spacers on the front. In the rear I replace the watts link and the rear sway bar with Gforce Engineering Tri-Link and Panhard rod 300lb springs and spherical bearings in the lower control arms and removed the uppers and installed a set of Advanced Design shocks front and rear. I also removed the rearend and put in a '83 gsl rearend frothe limited slip and the disk brakes. slapped a set of 13x7 Panasport wheels w/20.0x9.5-13 Hoosier tires. and went racing with the ugly purple car (I think thats why it was originally a $500 car). The follow year I had a friend throw a nice Blue paint job on the car and continued my lightining of the car by swaping out the SA bumpers 33lbs. ea with a set of lightened FB bumpers 12 lbs. ea. also put a Kamei spoiler on the front and gutted out the head light assemblies and just putting the covers on.
Last year I put some carpet , the dash, passenger seat and the head lights in the car. and a racing beat dual pipe exhaust on it to quiet it down, because I was running a dual 2 1/2" straight pipe under the rear end to a 3" dynomax muffler which was putting out about 110db and setting off car alarms. thru some historical plates on the car and drove the car to some local events because of the high gas prices .
So here we are 8 years later after a few years of tweaking the car. This is my what I am going to try for this year a Re-Speed front sway bar drop the rear spring rates down to 250lbs. and add a rear sway bar. A freind of mine is a engineer for a Grand Am GT team and is a big believer in softer spring rates and using the sway bars to increase spring rate in the turns but the car will be better over bumps on the straights. I also swapped out the SA trans. for an FB trans. because I kept missing the 2-3 up shift. hope every thing works out this year I will keep up dates here. I would post pic's but I can't at this time.
